It was a true wake up call as to what kind of people I'll be encountering if I want to pursue my goal of being a film/music talent agent.
I got an email about an internship position with Relevision productions that listed all the duties that a potential agent has to take on - reading scripts, attending production meetings, assisting in studio negotiations, promoting films for funding, etc. That internship was one that I really wanted to take on, but circumstances would not allow me to as I was going to be in Hong Kong in the fall. But what the hell, right?
I sent in my application, resume, and cover letter that night and the next morning, I received an email from the office of Roger for an interview. It read "we'd like to meet with you at the X Spot Cafe on Robson at 11:30am."
On the day of the interview, I dressed to the nines - pressed, cleaned, lint free suit with a matching green striped tie. Hair was pushed back to do the subtle American crew look. Shoes were polished and glistening.
I found the X Spot Cafe and walked in with five minutes to spare. The place was a casual breakfast/lunch joint that reeked of Americana cuisine - burgers, shakes, sandwiches, etc. all put together with red booth seating and rounded swivel chairs at the bar. Tiled black and white flooring guided me to the front of the hostess table. A jukebox was playing some Beach Boys song that I couldn't name.
Not sure how Roger was going to find me as I did not know how he looked, I asked the all asian crew that worked at the X Spot where I may find the illusive Roger Lary (maybe he was a regular there?). A blank look came across the host's face: "whooo? Roooger?"
Suddenly, a caucasian man that gave off the Michael Moore sentiment - a 6'3", 250 pound, cap wearing, blue collar of a gentle giant came up to me and asked: "you must be Lucas."
