Halitosis

Advertising has had a long history of conjuring up diseases. Since the 1920's, North American has been flooded with solutions (commodities) that will solve these "barriers to a good life", which in reality, was just pure anxiety as the cultural shift from a rural existance to city dwelling was underway.  By consuming these minute solutions to manufactured problems, it helped to alleviate the daily stress of the changing zeitgeist.

Some examples of these "diseases" were bad breath (halitosis), excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis), and weight gain.

As these examples have shown, some of these diseases have stuck with us to this day.

Which got me thinking, what were the modern day halitosis-ees?:

They're probably acne, wrinkles, restless leg syndrome, erectile dysfunction, among others

Although we understand that the modern day halitosis-ees do play a genuine part in the stress of daily life, we can also judge more critically the weight of concern we put on these manufactured diseases. For its not a pimple, a shaking limb, or a limp biscuit that we're stressed about, but the loneliness and isolation of an industrial society is what we're really fearing as the structural deficiencies of city life have kept us (consumers) looking inwards - at our personal bodily problems - but never outwards at the real problems of society such as racism. As a result, the legitimacy of these manufactured diseases and their cures are never questioned.
