She would always say "you're so young" to me when in reality we were born just 4 months apart. She would rebuttal with "A lot can happen in four months, you're such an inexperienced baby."
She was absolutely right as it was only four months that we lasted.
I remember the first time I saw her on the tram coming from Central. She hopped onto the train and I saw her from the opposite side of our social circle. She was tall and leggy, with a face when smiling presented a childish demeanour of innocence and first eye amazement, but when serious displayed a poise and sophistication that can only come about after seeing so much of the world. Her skin was a milky complexion that protruded the very universe of ideas and wit that held within her a milky way of possibilities. She came over to us and with my mouth gasped I looked away.
"Hi, I'm Veronica." "I'm Lucas, pleasure" I responded without barely making a glance back at her. Blinded by what I saw was so eye-catching, I couldn't even lift my head up to view what my hand just shook. She turned away to meet the rest of the group and by then, I finally had the courage to bring my head back up.
For that brief moment, I knew that something special had just happened. Snapped back and brought down to earth, my whole outlook changed - in her eyes, I melted back to childhood.
